Chloe Lilywhite struggles with all the normal problems of a typical seventeen-year-old high school student. Only, Chloe isn't a normal teenage girl. She's a Magical, part of a secret race of beings who influence the universe. More importantly, she's a Creator, which means Fate mapped out her destiny long ago, from her college choice, to where she will live, to even her job. While her friends and relatives relish their future roles, Chloe resents the lack of say in her life, especially when she learns she's to be guarded against a vengeful group of beings bent on wiping out her kind. Their number one target? Chloe, of course.

That's nothing compared to the boy trouble she's gotten herself into. Because a guy she's literally dreamed of and loved her entire life, one she never knew truly existed, shows up in her math class, and with him comes a twin brother she finds herself inexplicably drawn to.

Chloe's once unyielding path now has a lot more choices than she ever thought possible.

Rerun Reviews features reviews by Debbie, previously published on Keep Calm Read Romance or Talk Supe — and reviews by Ali previously published on GingerRead Reviews.

Chloe’s life is a carefully planned out. Every detail from her schooling to her career, from birth she’s been told what she will do, who she will be. She is told it is in Fate’s hands. Now she’s being told who she loves has also been carefully planned out, but her heart isn’t so sure about Fate’s choice.

Chloe met Jonah at a young age, in her dreams. She has spent years growing up with him and loving him, but never believing he is real. A year after he abruptly disappears from her dreamworld, he walks into her math class. She can’t believe he is real and she is terrified of the pain of losing him all over again. The idea of him not knowing her scares her into distance and silence.

Jonah didn’t come to town unaccompanied though, he brought his twin brother Kellan with him. Chloe feels a strange connection with both boys and does not have the same fears where Kellan is involved. Jonah doesn’t attempt to speak to Chloe either, but Kellan does, unleashing a complicated and heated love triangle.

Chloe’s distress over the love cards Fate has dealt her is only one of her problems. She’s slated to become the most powerful magical creature on the Council, the people that run the world. It’s her unique powers that make her the main target for a group determined to take their revenge on all magical creatures.

A Matter of Fate is a modern day twist of magical powers, star crossed love and a dash of mythology. I’m not talking magic the likes of newts eyes and bat wings brewing in a cauldron. I’m talking X-Men type powers. Mystical fireballs, creating lightening storms or earthquakes, inflicting debilitating viruses or emotions; all in the name of taking down your enemies. The fight scenes Lyons wrote were action packed excitement and quite stunning.

On the flip side of all these powers is the good that balances them out. Those that can inflict you with the plague can also heal your wounds. Those that can inflect deep depression can also make you fell pure bliss. If you can destroy you can create. You get the picture. The building of these powers and the world they belong too was enthralling. I love a good dose of paranormal and fantasy and A Matter of Fate has both.

There are so many characters introduced here that some were all together underdeveloped, I’m hoping some of them will take more of a center stage in future titles. However, some were very well developed and I loved them. Kellan and Karl were favorites of mine.

Now, I should probably comment on the love triangle as some of you love them and others loathe them. I am not usually a huge fan of them. I hate love conflicts just for the sake of there being a conflict. I can say that though not all of the aspects of this impossible situation worked for me, other aspects truly did. At the beginning of it I was mentally screaming at Chloe for being so silly and scared but the deeper the story got, the more invested I became in it, the more heartbreaking it became. This is not conflict for the sake of conflict. Even though I saw the true reason for the strife coming pretty early on, it didn’t matter, I was knee deep into wondering how it would be hashed out and honestly was pleased that there was not contrite happy ending. It wouldn’t have done the story justice.

I’m pleased I had a chance to read A Matter of Fate and look forward to finding out what happens with these characters in A Matter of Heart.

It seems the things worth keeping are often the hardest to hold...

I had two things in life that mattered. My mother and my music.
Mama was taken from me too soon, and now music is all I have left. It’s the thing that’s pushed me right out of backwoods Georgia into Los Angeles, where the line between fantasy and reality shimmers and blurs. I’m finally making my way, making my mark. I can’t afford to fall for one of music's brightest stars. Not now. Music is all I have left, and I’m holding on tight with both hands. I won’t let go, not even for Rhyson Gray.

I had one thing in my life that mattered – music. The only constant, it’s taken me to heights most people only dream about; a gift dropped in my lap at birth. I thought it was enough. I thought it was everything until I met Kai. Now she’s all I think about, like a song I can't get out of my head. If I have to chase her, if I have to give up everything - I will. And once she's mine, I won't let go.

Back in November, I picked up my first Kennedy Ryan book. It was My Soul To Keep and I pretty much adored it. I fell in love with Rhyson, especially. I just finished the follow up, Down to My Soul and my love for this boy just grew.

Here is my quickie review of My Soul To Keep, scroll further down for who I see as the characters. The ebook is on sale now for only $0.99.  Also, below you’ll find a giveaway for an ARC of book two, Down to My Soul!

My Soul to Keep was my first venture into a Kennedy Ryan book, but I’ll definitely be digging into her other titles. Shit, if all her guys are even remotely like Rhyson…she’ll become a favorite for sure.  He’s not without flaws. BIG flaws.  But his adorable quirkiness made me put up with his flaws. Well, mostly. Anyway, Ryan wrote characters I could care about and a story I could become invested in and wrapped it all up with some great lines. Like these:

“I’m afraid if I have him completely, he’ll take all of me”

“Watching you guys trying to be friends is like watching porn with no penetration. Really hot, but no climax.”

“I want to make her laugh my ring tone.”

“The man I didn’t want to need feels like the breath in my lungs.”

I mean, come on.  Great lines! If you’re a fan of the friends to lovers thing and you don’t mind a bit of a cliffhanger, check this book out. Strong 4 Stars

~ Dream Cast ~

Rhyson  – I picked Deigo Barrueco. He’s freckly, which Rhyson isn’t . But I can’t seem to care. It’s the look on his face all the time that sold me. He’s broody, which I think fits Rhyson well. His messy hair helped a lot too.

Kai – I chose Pom Klementieff.  She, like Kai, was born to an Asian mother and there is just something about her eyes that draws you in. I think she’s nearly perfect.

About Kennedy Ryan

Kennedy Ryan grew up in North Carolina, but loves living in Atlanta with her husband (tall – check, dark – check – handsome – check), and her handful of a son. Though she knew, like writers often do, that she was supposed to tell stories, the road to fulfillment has been paved with “some of everything” jobs that kept her family eating and living indoors. With her degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Tar Heels!), she has focused on writing for non-profit organizations and even doing some non-fiction ghost writing. Only in the last few years did she start telling stories again.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mom, she’s also passionate about serving families living with Autism. Her son was diagnosed with Autism at the age of two, and she has made it her mission to help as many families as possible find the resources and services they need.

I am just as passionate about the REAL LIFE stories I tell as I am about the worlds I build in fiction. Some of these use my given TINA DULA and some are written under my pseudonym KENNEDY RYAN.

Review: The Baller by Vi Keeland

Review: The Baller by Vi KeelandThe Baller: A Down and Dirty Football Novel by Vi Keeland
Published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform January 18th 2016
Genres: Contemporary Romance
Pages: 284
Format: eBook
Source: Purchased

From New York Times and USA Today Bestseller, Vi Keeland, comes a sexy new novel. The first time I met Brody Easton was in the men's locker room. It was my first interview as a professional sportscaster. The famed quarterback decided to bare all. And by all, I don't mean he told me any of his secrets. No. The arrogant ass decided to drop his towel, just as I asked the first question. On camera. The Super Bowl MVP quickly adopted a new hobby-screwing with me. When I pushed back, he shifted from wanting to screw with me, to wanting to screw me. But I don't date players. And it's not because I'm one of the few women working in the world of professional football. I'd date an athlete. It's the other kind of player I don't date. You know the type. Good looking, strong, cocky, always looking to get laid. Brody Easton was the ultimate player. Every woman wanted to be the one to change him. But the truth was, all he needed was a girl worth changing for. Turned out, I was that girl. Simple right? Let's face it. It never is. There's a story between once upon a time and happily ever after... And this one is ours.

Let me just start off by saying I fucking LOVE this book, like enough to want to claim Brody Easton as one of my top book boyfriends!

As my blog partners would say once I ranted about it to them, it was a total PALETTE CLEANSER!  I tend to love sports romances, even though I haven’t read many of them.  But this one was full of a sexy foot ball player and once I started I couldn’t stop.  I was actually in between 3 different books but my brain just wanted to read this one, so I did, and the rest is history…

It actually caught me off guard and somethings were definitely unexpected, some for the better and some not so much, but it did not stop me from reading at all.

Brody Easton is a MVP football player who is self pro-claimed as, fuck-ass spectacular, and I will highly agree with him.  He is a complete alpha asshole with a heart of gold.  He was just perfect and his playful nature just made me want to squeeze him all over.   The relationship that develops between him and Delilah was one I will always feel drawn to for so many specific reasons.

Delilah is a sports journalist and one of the best at that but she deals with the constant stress of being a woman in the world where it is implicated she only has her success due to the vagina in her skirts.  So she feels the need to prove her worth in her work field even more so than the next person.  Then she meets Brody Easton and he does not make said job any easier, he is actually plain and simple a pain in her ass.

They keep finding themselves in the same place which makes sense since he’s a star foot ball player and her job is to keep heavy coverage on him and his team.  Brody carries on many antics that both get under her skin and arouse her and he seems to like the latter.  After some time he seems to be really trying to pursue her and eventually she gives in as I knew she would and DAMN is it HOTT when she does give in.  Fuck me on the wall HOTT.  No time to catch a breath HOTT, like Brody always has a hard on HOTT

Things seem to be going really good and the dynamic between the two is fun, sexy, playful and just perfect! But they both have some buried and unburied skeletons in their closet. *Cue the drama.*  Cause it has to happen at some point and this is where it just fell a little flat for me…

Here’s why, there was a third POV added to the story and in my opinion it was useless it wasn’t executed in a way I understood it was needed.  The third persons POV created an issue between Brody & Delilah and had that issue been addressed with a bit more gusto I would of totally been okay with it.  So this third person had an ulterior motive and it caused a rift between Brody and Delilah but suddenly the issue became something else completely.  I felt like the story would of been the same and more understandable had that third POV not been there.

Overall I still loved the story and the characters, I’m anxious to read another title from this author as I really did enjoy it, it was just that one thing that kinked a knot a little for me.

And for the close, can Brody just fuck me full of sorry? I’ll volunteer really, seriously.  The ending was actually better than I was hoping considering the climax.  It came to a good close and I was content with where they left things off.  Vi Keeland I definitely think you should just give all the team members their own book because well football and sex, I’m sold!

It won't be long before the paparazzi start to smell smoke, and where there's smoke...

Elastic Hearts is the final installment in the Heart Series and though this is the third book the initial two do not need to be read in order to read Victor & Nicole’s story.

Let me begin by saying I had very high expectations for this book as Victor was the side character that intrigued me the most.  Something about the unattainable lawyer who had a protective streak over his sister in book one and never-ending cynicism in book two just won me over completely.

And the verdict is… Victor & newbie Nicole surpassed any expectations I thought I had!  I was hooked from start to finish, I basically could not put it down.  This is what you can expect when you pick up any of the three books from the Heart Series in my opinion.

So these two… They met without knowledge of who one another were and so have it be that Victor was newly employed by Nicole’s dads firm and well office sex happened a few times before it had to come to an end and that end lead to Nicole’s marriage to Hollywoods hottest actor Gabriel Lane.  Fast forward some odd years later and now Victor is handling the divorce of Nic & Gabe, interesting right? I thought so too.

But will Victor be able to work with Nicole without feeding into his desires wants?

Forbidden… Everything becomes forbidden.

The sexual tension between the two is visible to anyone with two eyes but Victor has worked hard throughout his whole adult life and Nicole is crossing every boundary line he draws making it harder and harder for him to keep things professional.

But once they both cross those lines, well that’s when all hell breaks loose.

Nicole is easily a favorite heroine of mine.  She was so relatable meaning she eats, she feels regret, breaks down like us all, doesn’t want to fail as a woman but feels as if she did, had very real insecurities, but lastly she found her strength in a very honest way and for all those reasons I fell in love with her.

Once things escalate to a point of no return with Victor and things go somewhat sideways she definitely stood up for herself and did not become this sappy shit she would not be anyone’s “dirty little secret” and she handled herself very well.  But your heart wants what it wants and who can deny that.

Victor on the other hand may have been a bit more out of control in the best way possible.  He is an asshole and working out a divorce to a woman he is falling in love with only adds fuel to the fire. But being the ever so present adult he isn’t quite ready to risk his career and her reputation for  something that is unknown to him. Though determination is quickly playing into their story and everything is heating up!

Finally, every divorce has to come to a close right?  What happens when this one does, will Victor & Nicole finally be able to be together publicly without precautions?

Let’s just say shit gets hot, like cross your legs real fucking hard hot…

I’m going to wrap it up here and just say I LOVED ELASTIC HEARTS! Where their story led was so genuine and perfectly measured I couldn’t have wished for a better outcome for these two.

My journey to being an Indie reader is a bit convoluted.  I’ve always been a big reader.  When the hubs and I struggled financially, we never had internet or cable, so I practically lived at the library or at yard sales searching for cheap paperbacks that typically already had the covers ripped off.  I’m not one of those readers who hadn’t read since high school but picked up FSOG and fell in love with reading…  reading and I have always been the very best of friends.

But one of my girlfriends is one of those people that I mentioned above.  She read Fifty, like fifty times, and then searched the web for what to read next, and the rest is history.  She became a fucking savage and somehow fell into the Indie world.

I remember sitting with her at work in between saving lives and squishing boobs and her being like, “You should really download the Kindle app.  E-books are legit.”  And all I could do is snarl and judge her a shit ton little.  I’d respond, “Um, no thank you.  I prefer real books that I can hold.”

And then my girl would be like, “Leah, you should really try a couple Indie authors.  You don’t know what you’re missing!”   And I would smile politely and say, “I’ve never had hemorrhoids either, but that doesn’t mean I need to experience them to know that I won’t like them.”  Because I totally thought Indie authors were trad-pub rejects, or bored housewives who needed to get a real hobby.  (Yes, I was a judgmental whore. But just hear me out.)

And this went back and forth for a while until she went a little ghetto on my ass and threatened bodily harm if I wouldn’t just try one.  (That’s a little over exaggerated, but you’re picking up what I’m throwing down.  I already said she turned savage, and I meant it.)   So, I begrudgingly downloaded the Kindle app and downloaded a book that all of her crazy book friends were loving, My Side by Tara Brown.

I read it.  And I hated it, just like I knew I would.

I seriously hated it.  So I went over to Amazon to check out the author’s profile and prove to my friend that the author was probably a schmuck and that’s where things started to turn for me.  Tara’s  ‘About Me’ on Amazon is different than it used to be, but I remember reading something like, “I won’t talk about myself in the third person because that’s weird” and LOLing because it really is weird.  And her whole spiel had me rolling in my chair, because that bitch is funny (she’s also one of my most favorite humans now, ever.)  So then I went to her website and read her blog posts for hours and kind of turned into a weird stalker.

So of course in my total stalker-haze I downloaded one of her paranormal stories (without telling anyone, of course.  It was a total special-ops moment because this bitch hates to admit she’s wrong) and I read the entire series in a matter of days.  I loved it.  Her writing was brilliant and I had never read anything like it ever.

I ended up reading every single book that woman had self-published, and when I read her BORN series, I was hooked.  If an Indie author could write a story that completely and utterly gutted me like that did, I was hooked.  I was a fan. I was a believer.

I made a second Facebook account just for book shit, because that entire world intrigued me.  Authors were on Facebook?  There were other people in the world who loved reading as much as me?  There were giveaways for books and free shit?  I could message an author and they would actually respond?   My mind was fucking blown.

I stopped reading paperbacks for the most part because being able to read at night when I’m laying in bed listening to my husband snore cuddling with my husband without a light on was a huge game changer.  And I’ll totally admit now that e-books have made me weak as fuck, because when I actually do have to hold up a paperback, I swear my wrists get so sore and I actually contemplate wearing wrist braces.

I still read traditionally published books, but 95% of what I read is Indie… and I truly believe that the quality of those books sometimes far surpass some that get published.  I mean seriously, some of those Indie authors are life-changing, soul-crushing, heart-stopping geniuses!

And I love the Indie world.  The authors, the bloggers, the readers.  Some of my closest and bestest friends are my internet book friends that no one in my real life really understand, but that’s okay, they’re my people.  My spirit animals.

And having relationships with authors is pretty fucking rad.  Getting to ask them questions, tell them how they made me ugly cry, getting to meet them at events – it’s a new way of life.  Indie authors have to be some of the hardest working, most generous human beings on this planet, and I feel pretty damn lucky to call them my friends.

So yeah.  I went from a judgmental, paperback self-righteous whoreface to being a loud and proud Indie reader.  And I’m pretty sure I’m here to stay.  🙂

I’d love to hear how you found yourself immersed in this crazy, awesome Indie world!  Let me hear your story!

Casey Coffield has a growing list of personal flaws he keeps locked away in his head:
He’s never on time.
His list of IOUs to his best friend is endless.
Money is always short.
Goals are never in reach.

Oh, and he’s decided to add college drop-out to that list, too. He doesn’t really think that last one’s such a bad thing, but his family insists it is, so it stays on the list.

On paper, he’s a zero. But in person, when he’s mixing tracks for a sea of bodies at the hottest clubs and parties, he’s downright irresistible. Just-right stubble on his chin, body of a boxer and a smirk that stimulates all the right nerves—women have never been a problem. They flock to his swagger and fall for his charm…fast.

All except for this one.

Purple hair, gray eyes, a raspy voice and sass, Murphy Sullivan is a little bit country and a little bit rock-n-roll. And her and Casey? They have history. He can’t remember it, but she wrote a song about him—and it’s not exactly a love song. But it is good. Damn good. And uncovering her inspiration just might be the key to solving a few of his shortcomings—not to mention open doors to his own big break in the music industry.

But sometimes dreams get messy when they collide. Sometimes life changes patterns. A past paints the wrong picture and futures get cloudy. The only question that remains is who will you choose when the dust settles—you? Or the girl of your dreams?

I’ve stated before that Ginger Scott is one of the most underrated authors I read.  I’ll add to that now by stating, she is the queen of perfect little moments. Scott has a way of slipping in these touches or breaths or glances and turning them into such profound moments. I absolutely adore them!

For example, this is Murphy and Casey just hanging out and sharing a look. Just a look.

Gray finds me fast and hold me hostage. I submit with nothing but the truth.

Or here, same scene just a little bit farther along…

Lane’s voice echoes from a few doors down, breaking up what might have been my favorite full minute of breathing ever. It was definitely my most honest minute ever. And I didn’t have to say a word.

Her books always have these great and perfect little moments placed at just the right times.

Did I just fangirl pretty hard right there? I did, didn’t I? *shrugs*

Anywho…on to the story of In Your Dreams.

Casey Coffield is kind of a mess. An adorable and charming mess, but a mess none the less.  He’s aware and keeps good mental notes on all his flaws that really need attention.  But he keeps his focus on the ones that may impede him from his dreams in the music business. The rest of those flaws can be fixed later.  Until he happens across a YouTube video of a girl singing a song titled, In Your Dreams, Casey Coffield.  A song he loves, a song he wants to put his spin on, a song he doesn’t really understand.

Murphy remembers Casey very well, even if he can’t remember her.  She’s very aware of the type of person Casey is. Or, at least, was. And she’s not about to fall for his false charms.  Until they really are no longer false and the connection they both have to music becomes more.

I’ve had sex. I’ve had boyfriends. What I’ve never been is almost kissed. I think maybe I like the almost kiss even better. Or maybe I hate the almost kiss.

It’s a slow burn romance. They are strangers who work with each other before they are friends who flirt, who eventually become lovers. Oh man, when they do…HOT!  But again, it’s all the little moments that lead up to their love and all the ones that follow after they become lovers that make In Your Dreams the book it is.  The interactions between these two were sweet and humorous and absolutely delightful.  They bond over a Biore pore cleansing strip. I mean, really, it sounds odd but it’s so fantastic.

Take two independently strong characters and throw them into all the situations that make them insecure, throw the scariest parts of life at them, and then watch them learn to lean on someone they never would have expected. And love it but know it’s not completely sound and solid. That’s what this book is.

I loved every bit of their story and my only complaint would be that I would have liked a little more at the end.  I needed more time with them, I didn’t want it to be over.

In Your Dreams is technically the fourth book in the Falling series but you can absolutely read it as a stand alone.
