Fighting for redemption…

I've lived most of my life in darkness, beneath the shadows of secrets and addictions. The last thing I ever wanted to do was hurt the only girl I'd ever loved-the one who brought me into the light. In my entire life I'd made one promise-a promise I'd intended to keep. I've broken that promise and now I have to live with the fallout. Dixie Lark hates me, and I have to tell her that I love her. I also have to tell her a truth that might destroy us forever.

Can she love me even if she can't forgive me?

Learning to move on…

Gavin Garrison broke his promise to my brother and he broke my heart in the process. I may never love anyone the way I've loved him, but at least I won't spend my life wondering what if. We had our one night and he walked away. I'm finally beginning to move on when my brother's wedding and a battle of the bands brings us back together.

Our band is getting a second chance, but I don't know if I can give him one. How do you hand your heart back to the person who set it on fire once already?

After reading Leaving Amarillo, I was extremely anxious for this story.  However, Quinn made us wait. Damn her. 😉

In Leaving Amarillo, Dixie finally gets the courage to throw her feelings for long time friend Gavin, on the table.  She’s been in love with him for as long as she can remember but he’s promised her brother he’d never touch her.  Until one night, when all rules are broken…along with Dixie’s heart.

Gavin walks away from Dixie and her life becomes shrouded in confusion and secrets, all held by Gavin.  Now, they’re forced together for Dixie’s brother’s wedding and the lasting feelings of betrayal and love are forced to the surface again.  Dixie wants answers but is afraid to put her heart on the line, Gavin wants time but is afraid it will cost him Dixie.

It’s always been obvious that Gavin holds his cards close and I speculated on what exactly his secrets were. Some were easy to guess, one…not quite. It was interesting turn and added a pained level to this already cracked relationship.  I could understand his not wanting to share it with Dixie and it made past actions much more tolerable.

While Gavin decides the best course of action to win Dixie’s trust again, Dixie is on a plight to become a stronger person, find herself a little more, take her music in a different direction…all of which change her life, dramatically.

Had Quinn only focused on the healing of Dixie and Gavin’s relationship, Missing Dixie would not have been such a hopeful story.  It would have been just a love story. Instead, it’s a story of courage, commitment, healing, selflessness, family and hope.  I really loved the added side story arc.  It allowed Dixie and Gavin to heal and grow in much more profound ways.
